About Me

I am currently a database administrator. My duties include maintaining high availability of business data and improving SQL server performance by examining server configuration and execution plan, optimizing queries and tuning indexes.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and started my career as a manufacturing engineer. While designing testing process, I developed interest in database and SQL query with Microsoft Access. I designed manufacturing databases and developed queries, forms, reports for user interface as well as reports for inventory, shipping and other departments. When the company adopted MES (Manufacturing Execution System), I jumped right in and worked closely with database administrator and software developer teams to analyze and design database structure, schema, relationships and etc.

I took an opportunity to become an IT professional. I was tasked for database administration, software and website development, active directory, IIS and other IT jobs. I redesigned company internal software and revamped their website. Throughout my tenure in the company, I developed my passion with SQL and .NET (C# and ASP.NET). My works consistently provide high efficient solutions to help users in their daily operation, and significantly reduce their reporting time.

While developing software and designing more reports, I became diligent in performance optimization. By carefully examining query execution plan and its IO/time statistics, I learned to improve performance by developing more efficient query and stored procedures.

As I became more involved in SQL Server administration, I carefully optimized server configuration such as virtual log size, file instant initialization, tempdb allocation, isolation level and proper index implementation to obtain better database performance. I also designed high availability and disaster recovery strategy to protect data loss and to sustain business operation.

I have earned several SQL Server certifications,

Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
Data Platform
Business Intelligence

Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
SQL Server 2012

Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)
SQL Server 2008 Database Administration

Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)
SQL Server 2008 Database Development
SQL Server 2008 Implementation and Maintenance

and also

Microsoft Specialist

In addition to my Bachelor Degree, I have also received my Master of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems. I am an avid reader of online blogs and member of user groups. The SQL communities have inspired me so much that I decide to start my own blog.
